MARKET Develops optical communications equipment designed for long-haul applications. CorWave
network system consists of an optical router, network gateway, network management software, and
transport devices capable of transmitting data over 160 wavelengths at 2.5 Gbps, or over 20
wavelengths at 10 Gbps, on a single fiber, representing a tenfold boost in capacity compared with
conventional Synchronous Optical Network, or SONet, ring structures. CorWave sends data without
converting light to electrical signals, thereby lowering costs of optical switching. Product is currently in
trials with several long-distance carriers with commercial availability planned in first quarter 2000.
Competes with Nortel Networks, QTera, and Lucent Technologies.

FINANCE Prerevenue. Has raised three rounds of funding; investors include Kleiner Perkins, New
